Very early plan of St. Albans. The plan is credited to John Oliver although it was enclosed within Sir Henry Chauncy's "The Historical Antiquities of Hertfordshire".
Oliver's plan seems to have been an original survey as the major source for British town plans, John Speed insets in his county maps, does not include a plan of modern St. Albans. Rather Speed chose to put an inset of Verulamium, the Roman town on his map of Herts.
