Handsome copper-engraved map of Scotland with part of Northumberland and Ireland, and with inset map of the Shetland and the Orkney Islands.


This incredibly detailed mid-18th Century map, not only marks settlements, administrative districts, and roads, but places icons to mark the ancient universities at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and St. Andrews. Along the developing road network, numbers indicate the distances in miles between each city, town and village. Charmingly engraved across the map are small icons to indication the mountainous terrain, and peppered between are small tree icons.


In the lower left of the map, above the legend, there is a grand dedication to Scottish nobleman, landowner and then Vice Admiral of Scotland, Charles Douglas 3rd Duke of Queensbury, and 2nd Duke of Dover (1698-1778).


This map, published after the death of Moll in 1732, was published by leading London printer and map-seller Thomas Bowles (II).
