Large chart of the River Clyde from Greenock to Dumbarton also showing the Port of Glasgow, Ardmore Head and Roseneath Bay.
The survey for this chart was first performed by Captain Charles Robinson in 1846. Robinson was a veteran surveyor and one of the few survivors of Captain Fitzwilliam Owen's extraordinary but ill-fated voyage to survey the east and west coasts of Africa. Robinson was then sent to survey the coast of Wales and finally to Scotland where he attained the rank of Captain. His survey was used as a basis for a further survey by Naval Master E.K. Calver in 1860. This example is a combination of Robinson and Calver's survey with minor updates to 1876. SL [SCOT1727]
