Folding map of the United States from the East coast to the newly established western border of Texas, the Western Territory and Nebraska.
This interesting folding map was published by George Philip and Son although J. Calvin Smith's name is on the front of the cover flap. It shows the United States very much in its 'manifest destiny' epoch, stretching its western border beyond the Mississippi, showing a part of Texas, the newly acquired lands of the Western Territory and the recently designated Nebraska Territory, dating publication to after 1854, despite the date of 1850 on its face.
It publicises the infrastructure available to the traveller in the title and is both an advert and a publicity document for travel both foreign and domestic. Original hand colour. Folded. [USA9186]
