Mid-19th century map focusing on Burma (Myanmar), together with northeast India and western Thailand. The geography reflects the annexation of the whole of Lower Burma by the British after the Second Anglo-Burmese War (1852). Curiously, the northern boundary of the British territory in Lower Burma is much further south than agreed by treaty, suggesting that there was still some uncertainty about the border at the time of this map's publication.



Sidney Hall's New General Atlas was published in multiple editions between 1830 and c.1860 by various iterations of the Longman firm of publishers. Editions after Sidney's death in 1831 were often updated by his widow, Selina Hall, to show contemporary developments. As this map shows the results of the Second Anglo-Burmese War, two decades after Sidney's death, it should probably be attributed to Selina, though as Selina has chosen not to replace Sidney's imprint with her own, we have followed suit.
