Map of the Germanic Confederated States including the Kingdom of Prussia
Separately issued folding map of the German Confederation established after the defeat of Napoleon.
The German Confederated States or German Confederation was a loose replacement of the Holy Roman Empire, which had been dissolved by Napoleon in 1806. It was also a union of German speaking states as well as Bohemia and Carniola. Both of the German speaking victors of the Napoleonic War, Prussia and Austria, immediately began to vie for influence over this newly created political entity, and this finally culminated in the Seven Weeks War of 1866, with victory going to Prussia. It then formed the North German Confederation, which turned into the German Empire in 1871 after the Prussian victory in the Franco-Prussian War. Ultimately, the German Confederation became the geopolitical basis for modern Germany. Original hand colour. Folded. [GER2250]
