United States of America, Exhibiting the Seat of War on the Canadian Frontier from 1812 - 1815
Map of the United States and Canada published to illustrate the theater of the war of 1812 between the USA and Britain. The inset on the lower right shows the straits between Lakes Erie and Ontario.
The inset concentrates on the Great Lakes as these became key battlegrounds in the War, with initial American attempts to invade and annex Canada repulsed by the British while later, British attempts to invade American territory being repulsed, leading to a stalemate.[USA9137]
