Great Lakes. Important German rendition of Bellin's seminal map of the Great Lakes. < br>
Bellin's initial map issued in 1744 was smaller than this version. It was the next geographical iteration of the region after the after the maps issued by Nolin and Lahontan and remained the standard shape for the lakes for the rest of the century. Although the map is generally superior and far more accurate than its predecessors it is not without its foibles, not least a series of mythical islands present in Lake Superior. [USA9134]
