Tabula Seconda de Asia
Important incunable map from one of the earliest printed editions of Ptolemy's 'Geographia' showing the Black Sea, Crimea, southern Russia, the Caucasus, and part of Turkey. This particular region features a plethora of mythical but resonant names, including the land of the Amazons, the kingdom of Mithridates, Sarmatia in Europe and Sarmatia in Asia as well as the mountains of Hyperborea, the land of the mythical "giants beyond the North Wind". The geographical information and the names are derived from Ptolemy's classical background around 150AD.
