Carte Generale de Canada
Second state of this influential map of Canada with its main emphasis being the exploration of the great lakes by Louis Armand de Lahontan.
Lahontan was a French soldier in Canada in the late 17th century and participated in numerous military engagements against hostile Indians and the British. Due to accusations of disloyalty, he had to flee the country and spent the rest of his life in exile. He published a highly fanciful narrative of his time in the New World, illustrated with several maps. It was thought to be the second most read book about Canada after the journals of Louis Hennepin and therefore hugely influential. [CAN2984]
