Large, spectacular two-sheet map showing modern Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Singapore together with the western Indonesian islands of Sumatra, Borneo and Java.
Mortier first issued his atlas "the Neptune Francois" in 1692 but revised and updated it both in 1696 and 1708. The maps were mainly based on the French mapmaker Jaillot who in turn used French Jesuit sources as well as the famous Chevalier de Chaumont expedition of 1685/6 for this specific map. This example is characterised by the more unusual and spectacular full original body wash colour. [SEAS4962]
