Miniature map of Surrey published in "The abridgement of Camden's Britania with the maps of the severall shires of England & Wales". These were the first set of English county maps to include longitude and latitude markings. Only 200 copies of this atlas were thought to have been published making this a very rare map.
John Bill was a fascinating and important figure in the history of English printing. He began his career as a traveling book-buyer for Sir Thomas Bodley, founder of the Bodleian Library at Oxford. From 1601 he was in business as a printer/publisher in London. One of his greatest works was the publication of the 1606 edition of Abraham Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first folio-sized world atlas ever published in England. A catalogue of Bill's wares from 1622 is the oldest surviving catalogue by an English bookseller.
