Carta Topografica di Roma
Folding map on two sheets showing Rome and its environs. The map is based on a new survey by Helmuth von Moltke.
Helmuth von Moltke the Elder was the Chief of the Prussian General Staff from 1857-1887 and credited as the architect of the Prussian victories of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1. He is thought to be one of the foremost military officers and strategic thinkers of the 19th century.
Before he became a general officer, von Moltke travelled widely throughout Europe and the Ottoman world and was a reknowned surveyor and cartographer. This survey of Rome was made during his spell as the personal adjutant to Prince Henry of Prussia while on a tour of the city in 1845-6. Folded. [IT3340]
