Colonel and later Sir, Frederick Trench (1775-1859) was an British military officer and Tory MP. In 1824, he proposed the setting up of the New Quay Company, an ambitious plan to contruct merchant warehouses underneath the terraces and along the banks of the Thames.



The key in the top left of the plan marks some of the business that could operate from these warehouses and addtional tunnels to create quicker routes onto main roads and Covent Garden.
