Sketch map of Ordos, within the famous Ordos Loop of the Yellow River in northern China and known for being one of the cradles of Chinese civilization.
William Carles was the British Vice Consul in Shanghai and used this map to illustrate an article on the region. The Ordos Plateau in northern China and Inner Mongolia is also connected to the Wei River Valley, a region whose archaelogical history goes back to the Upper Paleolithic period and which is hugely significant to the development of China to this day. Printed colour. [SEAS4904]
