This highly interesting map captures a moment in the history of Georgia when the western border of the state was still shown as running along the Altamaha River. West of this lies a huge section of land entitled Country of the Creek Indians although this was already disputed by this point. Although granted to the Creek Nation by treaty with the Federal goverment, the state of Georgia sold this land back to the Federal Government in 1802; they, in turn, used this transaction as a basis to move the Nation to the Indian Territories in Oklahoma.
