Large physical sketch map Brazil highlighting the intricate river systems, dense forest and mountainous terrain of the vast region, published to accompany the paper titled “Journey from the rio de Sao Francisco to the Tocatins and thence to Maranham” by railway engineer James William Wells (1842-1938) in the Geographical Journal, following his expedition in 1875-76.
The full account of Wells’ expedition was published in his book titled “Exploring and Traveling Three Thousand Miles Through Brazil from Rio De Janeiro to Maranhao, with an Appendix Containing Statistics and Observations on Climate, Railways, Central Sugar Factories..."
