Repraesentatio Americae Borealis
Ornate map of North America showing California as an island and shading the regions which were not being reached by Catholic missionaries. A large cartouche to the left of the map illustrates the Biblical passage "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few" [Matthew 9:37], suggesting that more missionaries were needed to spread the Catholic faith in the Americas. A vignette of a ship carrying missionaries on the right of the map is Scherer's proposed solution.
