Carte d'une Partie de l'Amerique pour la Navigation des Isles et du Golfe de Mexique
The West Indies, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea. Large chart with a panel of navigational explanations on the upper right and colour-coded to identify European colonies.
Philippe Buache was the successor to Guillaume de L'Isle and this is one of the relatively few maps he produced with is not based on de L'Isle. Buache credits Henry Popple's vast 20 sheet map of the east coast of the United States and the West Indies as his source on the title. He has also added a smaller sheet as a western extension, detailing the Gulf of Mexico and Central America to this map. As well as superb detail of the keys, banks and coasts of the region, Buache has also added the route of the Spanish Galleons from Vera Cruz to Havana, which was one of the legs of the annual journey of the Spanish treasure fleet from the Pacific to Seville.
