Santini's Venetian edition of the key map to D'Anville's important wall map of the United States first published at the beginning of the French Indian War in 1755.
D'Anville's map is associated with a French repudiation to several English claims in the interior of the United States, first made on the John Mitchell map published in the same year. It was extremely important to the French Crown that this map was as widely disseminated as possible in their attempts to discredit English claims not only in North America but other parts of the world as the French Indian War was only the North American theater of the Seven Years War which is perceived by the majority of military historians to be the first conflict conducted on a truly global scale. This Italian edition is one of several late 18th century maps based on D'Anville's wall map.
This being the key map to the whole, the red line divides the piece into the four component sheets of the wall map.
Original hand colour. [USA4332]
