Insulae Corsicae
This beautiful map of Corsica was first published by the firm of Homann Heirs in 1735. The geography, credited to a Capt. J. Vogt in the map's title cartouche, represents a significant step forward from the firm's 1732 map. The island's shape is here depicted as much less jagged, with far greater coastal detail than had previously been available.
A decorative title cartouche provides a connection to the elaborate engraved maps of the firm's founder, Johann Baptist Homann, but the lack of other decorative features and the overall simplicity of design point to a shift in the firm's objectives away from gaudy decoration and towards scientific accuracy.
