A large folding map of London and the surrounding area 25 miles in each direction, extending to Windsor, Beaconsfield, Tring and Guildford in the west, to Dorking, Reigate, and Tonbridge in the South, to Gravesend and Chelmsford in the east, and to Hertford, Hemel Hempstead, and St Albans in the north.
Published by one of the great mapmakers of Georgian England, John Cary, this map conveniently covers most of what is now London's commuter belt. It is richly detailed with virtually every building in all of the towns and villages marked. The map paints a fascinating picture of Georgian London, which stretched no further than Hyde Park in the west and Limehouse in the east. Areas which are now synonymous with London, such as Paddington, St Pancras, Islington, and Hampstead are all shown as distinct villages, completely separate from the capital.
Original hand-colour.
