Playful space-age game. Brightly coloured 8 inch tin globe of space acts as a playing board, metal rocket pieces and rotating base.



In the 1950's, Replogle issued three different tin toy globes with geographical games. Each had a spinning pointer on the base and they focused on aviation and the space race, which reflected the topical fascination of the time. This tin globe is a space game of fact and fantasy. It is decorated with the planets of the solar system and the dots leading from planet to planet represent counting spaces. The sun is shown at the top and other illustrations include classical figures, astronauts, spaceships and a radio tower. The base is painted with numbers one to nine dispersed with actions such as advance five spaces or go back to the last planet. Around the spindle to the base is a rocket shaped arrow, which is spun to decide how far to move forward around the board. The game has three of the original magnetic markers. [GLOBE143]
