Routes Through Barga and North Eastern Mongolia
Three maps on one page showing sections of an expedition from Hailar in Manchuria, through northeast Mongolia, to Kyakhta near Lake Baikal in 1912-13. A small overview map (upper-right) shows the area covered. The mountains and rivers along the route are well mapped, but nothing else is shown in the interior of the region. Notes along the route describe the country and terrain.
The expedition was led by Lt. G.C. Binsteed, a member of the British army in Peking and a gifted linguist. Binsteed traveled through Mongolia in 1911 immediately after its declaration of independence from China and was asked by the new Mongolian government to travel to Beijing to confirm whether their independence declaration had been received.
Printed colour. [AS914]
