Sir William Jardine was an eminent 19th century Scottish naturalist, ornithologist, publisher and owner of one of the finest and largest private collections of birds in Great Britain. He is best known for The Naturalist's Library, a monumental work published in parts between 1833-1845 with illustrations by the leading natural history artists (named lower left) and engraved by Jardine’s brother-in-law the eminent William Home Lizar (named lower right).
