Superb county map of Lancashire and part of modern-day Cumbria and Westmoreland (part of The Lake District), from Bowen's landmark survey of Georgian England.
The map features a splendid decorative cartouche depicting a mining scene and sacks of wool, reflecting some of the dominant trades of the area - slate mining and sheep farming.
The margins are filled with fascinating notes about the towns, industry, and nobility of the county. This county map is dedicated to British nobleman and politician Edward Stanley (1689-1776), the 11th Early of Derby from 1736-1776.
