| This large, highly detailed wall map of the Carnatic was published to illustrate the activities of the British East India Company during the Second Anglo-Mysore War 1780-1784. The map was based on the surveys of Col. Kelly and Captain Wersebe and their staff. The routes marked on the map show the marches of the columns of Sir Eyre Coote, Col. Humberston and Col. Fullerton.
The Second Anglo-Mysore War is perceived as being of great importance in Indian history. The British East India Co. in Madras was ordered from London to make peace with Tipu Sultan and this was the last time that an Indian potentate was able to dictate terms to the British at the Treaty of Mangalore.
This piece is of extreme rarity. We have able to locate only one other institutional example. |
