This map was originally published in an informational booklet by Erno Goldfinger and E.J. Carter explaining the County of London's reconstruction and redevelopment plans after the war. The booklet contained many smaller maps addressing topics such as traffic flow, population density, industry, access to open space, and bomb damaged areas. This is the largest map in the booklet and the best overall view of the city as it was in 1945.
Many suburban areas which are now considered part of London are shown outside of the county boundary at the time, including West Ham, Beckenham, Mitcham, Wimbledon, Chiswick, and Cricklewood.
