Georges-Louis Le Rouge
22 x 29 cm
The shape of Korea and Japan on this map are distinctive and based on the maps first issued by J. B. D'Anville for Du Halde's history of the Jesuit mission creating maps for and accompanying the Kangxi Emperor on his expedition against the Tartars of the north. This work contains the first separate map of the Kingdom of Korea as well as drawing a map which differs substantially from the geographical shape of Japan shown on the map by Engelbert Kaempfer published in 1727.
This is the second edition of the map published by Crepy in 1767. Original colour. [SEAS5384]
