Extremely detailed map of New Guinea together with New Britain, New Ireland and the Solomon Islands.
Taken from a survey first issued by the War Office in 1928.This extremely detailed map of New Guinea and the surrounding islands of New Britain, New Ireland and Bouganville of the Solomon Islands was reproduced by the South African Survey Co. of the South African Engineering Corps in 1942.
New Guinea was the site of a long and bitter campaign conducted by General Douglas McArthur after he left the Philippines. The environment was extremely hostile to both the Allies and the Japanese so maps like these would have been extremely important resources.
