A large and extremely detailed cadastral survey of the Argentinian province of Santa Fe, naming the owners of individual parcels of land, and indicating unclaimed or unsettled parcels. Of particular interest are the English, German, and Italian landowner names scattered amongst the more traditional Argentinian names. Large numbers of European immigrants arrived in Argentina in the 1850s and 1860s - between 1869 and 1895, the province's population jumped from 89,000 to almost 400,000. The productive plains of Santa Fe province made it an ideal destination for immigrants.
This map was created by Carlos de Chapeaurouge, an Argentinian engineer and surveyor responsible for early cadastral surveys of many Argentinian towns and provinces in the 1870s and 1880s, producing several large maps of this kind. He also produced the first official government survey of Buenos Aires in 1888.
