Ibrahim Hilmi al-Ghouri
102 x 76 cm
This map covers the Levant, showing Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. It celebrates the foundation of the United Arab Republic, a short lived political union between Egypt and Syria which was founded in 1958 and lasted until 1961 when Syria seceded due to a coup.
Geographically, the map highlights the a network of roads and rail but it does not show the state of Israel. An inset on the lower right shows the UAR in context to the wider region.
A mention must be made of the elegant and beautiful Arab script used throughout the map.
