Samuel Lewis
19 x 24 cm
The map was issued in Lewis’s Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, part of a series of Topographical Dictionaries of the United Kingdom published by Samuel Lewis. He published individual volumes for England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales supposedly at a cost of 48,000GBP, an enormous sum at the time. It was a troublesome project for Lewis, not least as shortly before the publication of the Irish volume, he decided to send out proof sheets to Irish cartographers to check for errors.
First issued in 1837, this is the 1850 edition.
