Nicolas de Fer
51 x 41 cm
Beautiful map of Savoy by Nicholas de Fer based on the Blaeu/Borgonius map first published in 1682.
De Fer had already issued several maps of Savoy previous to this one, including his four sheet wall map of Savoy and Piedmont in 1692 and his small map from the Atlas Curieux from 1705. Fundamentally, he used the Blaeu/Borgonius map of the same region first issued in 1682 from the Theatrum Sabaudiae. The map is beautifully and flamboyantly engraved in the style reminiscent of the Italian masters of the late 17th century such as Coronelli or Rossi.
Coloured. [FR3480]
