Philippe Buache
51 x 66 cm
A French map of Italy showing the political entities as they were in the early 1700s, including the Kingdom of Naples, the Papal States, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and the Signoria of Venice. The scale bar is given in 13 different forms of measurement, such as Venetian miles, Roman miles, and French leagues. The decorative title cartouche features two Catholic nuns holding a cross, candle, incense burner, and a reliquary. Below the cartouche, a winged putti crowns another putti with the Papal mitre, an amusing tongue-in-cheek addition. Original hand-colour. [IT3505]
