This map is a fine example of the European colonial jousting that was occurring in Africa during the period, with German East Africa or modern Tanzania sandwiched between British Central Africa and British East Africa or modern Kenya; Lake Victoria was tentatively divided in half. Germany was also claiming a corridor of land from German Southwest Africa, now Namibia, to the Victoria Falls on the River Zambesi. France and Portugal are also well represented on the continent. The nominal Congo Free State was a Belgian entity.
