Mercator Hondius
48.3 x 35.6 cm
Superb example of the celebrated Dutch Golden Age map of the Middle East showing the extent of the Ottoman Empire. One of only a handful of maps to use the term 'Arabian Gulf' instead of 'Persian Gulf'. The elaborate strapwork cartouche is surmounted by an image of the former Ottoman Emperor Mehmed III (1595-1603). French descriptive text on the verso (image available on request). Rich original hand colour. [MEAST4611]
