Topographical map of Kurdistan, the disputed region of eastern Turkey between Lake Van and the Iraq-Iran border. This map was published in the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society and compiled by Major F.R. Maunsell, the British Military Attaché in Istanbul.
Maunsell was charged with compiling information of military importance and evaluating the military readiness of the Ottoman Empire in case Britian should have to go to war with Turkey. This included compiling detailed maps of areas previously little-mapped, including Kurdistan.
