This area reflects the writings of classical chroniclers who were aware of lands such as Arabia, India and Persia, but which were not initially portrayed on orthodox Ptolemaic maps. As classical maps developed, even though Ptolemy was cited as the primary source, these Eastern lands were added to show that classical authors such as Pliny were aware of their existence.
Although the shapes of these lands show Georgian knowledge, the nomenclature is taken from classical sources.
