David George Hogarth
33 x 41 cm
The handbook was compiled by David George Hogarth for the recently established Naval Intelligence Division for use of Naval officers in the Middle Eastern theatre during World War I. Running to two volumes, five maps were included in the back pockets of both volumes. The work was published in both English and Arabic and contained all the information a naval officer would need, much of which was deemed confidential.
Due to its secret nature, the handbook was published in very low numbers, making it a rare and highly collectable item for the Middle East.
This map shows the main districts and towns of the Arabian Peninsula at a time of fundamental change in the region.
