The title of this map is slightly misleading; although it does show Germany, it also includes the Holy Roman Empire which comprised Austria, Bohemia or the modern Czech Republic and Slovakia, Silesia and the Tyrol. Further west, the map also shows the Netherlands together with the Low Countries, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
Philippe de Pretot was the overseer of the production of this series of maps. De Pretot was also a Royal Censor or a member of a panel of experts who determined if a particular work, in this case, the atlas, was deemed to deserve to be published with a Royal Privilege, The artist responsible for this map was Maurille Moithey.
