Map of the North Pole from the Andrees Handatlas, a German composite work which derives its name from one of its main contributors, Richard Andree.
The North Pole bears printed references to Nansen Expedition of 1895 and Umberto Cagni’s Expedition of 1900. There are four insets on the map, one in each corner. Two of Greenland, Spitzbergen (Svalbard) and Novaya Zembla (Novaya Zemlya). Two keys on the lower left and right show the height of land and depth of ocean respectively.
The first issue of the Andrees Handatlas was in 1881 but there were many editions through to 1937. This example of the map shows the Cagni Expedition and the date on the lower left, dating it most likely to the 1905 edition.
