Art Cartography: A collaborative exhibition with Kristjana S. Williams
In a meeting of minds and creators old and new...
The Map House, London’s oldest seller of antique maps re-launches their Mews Gallery with an exhibition of new works by artist Kristjana S Williams, in a contemporary exploration of the traditional art of cartography.
For this exhibition Williams brings incredible historical works of art back to life using her eye-catching signature style, by featuring new vibrant digital collages on historical maps of locations such as London and China as well as maps of the world. Alongside these intricate prints, the artist will also present her first ever three-dimensional hand cut paper collage maps.
The show will open during the London Design Festival 2014 and runs from 15th September to 9th October, marking a momentous year for Williams who has both won, and been nominated for awards in design and illustration, demonstrating how her mesmerising work is gaining prominence. The collaboration between Williams and The Map House was an organic partnership conceived through a mutual love of cartography and antiquarian aesthetics. In a shared pursuit of bringing Victorian masterpieces into the 21st Century, their aim is to not only modernise, but to once again celebrate the work of incredibly skilled cartographers of the past.
The Map House would like to thank Sipsmith Independent Spirits for their support.
Join us throughout September until the 9th October for this fabulous showcase.
