French sea chart of the coast of the Gulf of Guinea, specifically the territory formerly known as the Ivory Coast, or modern-day Cote d'Ivoire. On the right side of the map along the stretch of coast which now belongs to Ghana are two Swedish settlements, 'Cap Apollonia' and 'Frederisbourg', both of which were founded in the 1650s as part of the Swedish Gold Coast colony. Also of interest is a small settlement towards the left side of the map marked 'Ostend', possibly an unsuccessful attempt by the Austrian Ostend Company to colonize the region, though no records survive of such a colony.
