Willem & Jan Blaeu
49 x 59 cm
An ornate Dutch Golden Age map of the Cyclades and Dodecanese Islands in the southern Aegean Sea, including Samos, Andros, Paros, Naxos, Milos, Mykonos, and Santorini. Blaeu credits his source in the cartouche as Johannes Laurenberg, a German geographer, mathematician and poet who drew eight maps of Greece and its surrounding islands. These were regularly used by the Golden Age Dutch Houses as their main source for maps of this region. Original hand colour.
