Blaeu's atlas of Scotland was based on the surveys of Timothy Pont; these were obtained and edited, revised and prepared for publication by the noted Scottish geographer, politician and antiquary Robert Gordon of Straloch. This is one of the few maps in the work which bears Gordon's name.
