This map of the Province of Munster is the first to concentrate on the Southwest of Ireland and the first of the Kingdom or Province of the ancient region of Munster. Geographically, the map draws on an amalgam of sources, including Ortelius, Mercator, Saxton and Camden, but it also contains a great deal of new information; this is particularly true of its inset town plans of Limerick and Cork. These are often cited as the first printed city plans of these towns. Both are portrayed as large walled settlements with a small key noting important buildings.



The map itself is divided into counties, most of which are still in use today. These include Waterford, Limerick, Clare, Kerry, Ormond, and Cork. Symbols are used to indicate the relative size and importance of towns from small villages to major cities.
