Aaron Arrowsmith
99 x 130 cm
Monumental folding wall map of Iran compiled by John Macdonald Kinneir, an army officer and diplomat attached to Sir John Malcolm's 1808-9 mission to Persia. This map was originally published by Aaron Arrowsmith, one of London's foremost geographers, to accompany Kinneir's A Geographical Memoir of the Persian Empire (1813); however, the map's superb and unparalleled accuracy meant that it continued to be the best available map of Iran as late as the 1850s when a new edition was published by the Surveyor General's Office in Calcutta to support the Anglo-Persian War effort.
Original hand colour. [Folded]
