The internal political boundaries reflect the state of the Ottoman Empire just before the seismic events of the First Egyptian-Ottoman War of 1831-3, which would ultimately result in Egyptian rule established in Syria and the Levant and the extraordinary event of a Russian army being invited by the Ottoman Court to march into Anatolia.
