John Arrowsmith
72 x 49 cm
The survey of the map is provided by the Quartermaster General's office in Colombo and its emphasis on the region around Kandy refers to the military activities during the Matale Rebellion on the island in 1848. A note on the upper right states that this map accompanied the dispatch of Lord Torrington, governor of Ceylon during this period. This suggests that it was originally a map to be included in the Parliamentary Papers, however this example was augmented and converted into a folding map by Arrowsmith for his clients who had an interest in the island. A very unusual item. Original hand colour. Folded. [IC2640]
